Wherein I inevitably remember and hate on the death of my favorite female TV character of all time. I won't babble on about my love for her, because I've already done that plenty here and here.

You still suck, writers. BUT ANYWAY. I will definitely write some fic to cheer me up tomorrow (and if I'm super lucky, [personal profile] adrenalin211 will write me some, too!). Until then, if anybody has funny links or great songs I'm likely to adore, I'd love it if you'd send them my way:) Happy Thursday!

Tossing this up because 1) I love this meme so much and 2) [profile] lowriseflare asked.

TOP 5 ME! Books, art, culture, politics, music, fandom stuff, movies, television, anything. Ask as many as you'd like. Be vague. Be specific. I don't care if it's mundane or off the wall.

Crazy day for me (parents are here) to be putting up a meme, but I'll answer everything eventually, no doubt. Happy Hump Day!
leigh57: (Snape reads fanfic)
I've discussed this subject with [profile] lowriseflare and [profile] century_fox, and with the recent explosion of fic talk surrounding The Hunger Games movie, it's even more on my brain.

What aspects of a TV show/movie/book are likely to make you need fic like breathing? Are there some TV shows/movies/books for which you read fic but wouldn't dream of ficcing, even if you write?

I'm just super curious to hear some thoughts on this!

This picture makes me die laughing. )

Anyway, happy Tuesday! My birthday present is a tattoo, so I'm mulling what and where:)
leigh57: (8x07 Jack/Renee close talk far)
So yes, I'm aware that I didn't totally finish the last meme, but I've got some time at work today and I need the kind of mood inspiration that comes from either icons or music. SO. I think the first time I saw this it was from [personal profile] sardonicynic, but this particular version is credited to [personal profile] adrenalin211.

Pick one of my LJ icons.

I will write you at least one sentence of something vaguely resembling fiction based on said icon. If you pick something generic or scenic, you can specify what character(s) you want me to write, so long as you know I have SOME knowledge about that fandom.

Also, Songs From District 12 and Beyond was released today. I'm DLing now, but I already know that the songs by Arcade Fire, The Civil Wars, and The Low Anthem are fantastic. The Arcade Fire is destined to become one of those songs I put on repeat for a week. I hope the week is starting out well for everybody!

After the insane drama of het_bigbang last year, I had decided, 100% and without a doubt, that I would not, under any circumstances, be participating this year.

And then the mod pops up this post, which says that there will be a 10k mini-bang option.

I just. GAH!!! In any case, this is also a PSA for anybody and everybody who might want to participate in this. Despite the angst and all that crap, I had so much fun, and the people in that comm are some of the best people on LJ. /PSA

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

Squidge.

Wow, this NPR article about the publication of books that originated as Twatlight fanfic has me all ten thousand squiggles of wiggling in my chair.

Thoughts?

Also, iTunes genius mixes are super hit or miss, but wow when they *hit*, they can be phenomenal. Do you guys use this feature?

Tell me about a story I haven't written, and I'll give you between one and three sentences from that story.

[profile] century_fox has put up Fabulous Fictional Females: a lady lovefest meme.

It's an AWESOME meme where you can geek out in any way you like (gushing, fic prompts, graphics, whatevs) over whichever fictional ladies you love the most. So if you so choose, go forth and share the love!
leigh57: (Snape reads fanfic)
I wasn't going to say anything on LJ/Dreamwidth about my Galentine's Day thread, but now there are ficlets in there (and also some super hot pics of Jack/Kiefer). [personal profile] adrenalin211 will now proceed to kill me for linking to this. My only defense is that because there is such a dearth of Jack/Renee fic out there in cyberspace, when some shows up I feel the need to shout this fact to the rooftops.

You started it, A.

I am so mature.

WARNING: My segment of the above link contains pregnant!fic. Haters to the left, please and thank you. If that's not your tea, most definitely do not click the link. Or do click it and just skip to A's porn;)

So S is home with a stomach virus. Again. I didn't even realize that was . . . possible. But the doctor says it is, SO. Maybe we can just have an action replay of the awesome that was LAST week. I can only wait in breathless hope. Or something. I seriously give up. However, this video is pretty frakking amazing and hilarious. Also, the first dog is adorable.

Wishing all of you a healthier Wednesday than we're having in this house!

eta: OH. And Justified was so fantastic I can't even deal. At least there is that:) Boyd! Dewey! Dickie! Johnny! RACHEL!!! I cannot stop with my exclamatory joy.
leigh57: (Buffy OMG!)
Wow, there is no measure for how much I needed this today. Thanks so much to [profile] poeelektra for the link.

Have a terrific Monday, everybody. I am crossing my fingers that I can finally manage to drag my ass back to the gym.

Whew.

Wow, I missed the Porn Battle prompts post deadline. And woke up to discover that we're out of coffee. This week continues to be a winner. #firstworldproblems.

But I did finally manage to put up my Jack/Renee Shipper Manifesto! It's a whole lot more thrown together than I wanted it to be, mainly because I had zero time to work on the second 2/3 of it, but it's done, and that's what's important.

Huge thank yous to [personal profile] sardonicynic for unlocking fic so I could rec it and to [personal profile] adrenalin211 for making me graphics and for the crazy quick read-through of my stream-of-consciousness babble. [personal profile] dealan311, feel better dude!

One major advantage to all the squeeing is that it really got me in the mood to write again. Now I'm in one of those "so many ideas, so little time" places, which feels kind of excellent in my brain after this week's insanity.

Okay! Off to Dunkin' Donuts to score my fix, and then I think finally . . . this week's Justified! [personal profile] sardonicynic says it's awesome, and I do not doubt:) You guys have exciting weekend plans?
leigh57: (Anchorman Glass Case of Emotion)
So. I have spent the entire day dealing with an incredibly sick kid (I will spare you any more details than that) and watching pretty much every terrifying made-for-the-tween-set movie that's been released in the last uh, decade? Spy Kids? The Drake and Josh movie? The Garfield movie? Saw 'em. (Although Robert Patrick is just hot, even in Spy Kids.)

I'm basically in the bell jar. However, the Porn Battle is coming up. I'm not saying that I'll have even ten minutes (or remotely any inspiration) to write for it, but nonetheless I WILL fall on my knees and beg for you guys to toss some Jack/Renee prompts up there, and if you do, link me. In return, I am more than happy to throw up (ugh, poor choice of words for today) prompts for any couple/threesome/fivesome of your choosing. Just lemme know.

I hope everyone has has had an infinitely more pleasant Sunday than mine;)

I'm sitting here halfway crying/trying not to cry because S has a friend over. So I'm posting this without comment. It doesn't need any. Thanks so much to [profile] poeelektra for the link.

Okay, I give. I gotta kickstart the brain somehow if I want to get the Santa fics finished (which I do), so here we go. From the more-versatile-than-I-can-ever-hope-to-be [profile] lowriseflare:

Tell me about a story I haven't written, and I'll give you between one and three sentences from that story.

Argh, prompt me and help me be less brain dead? And in case you're all, "You didn't even finish all the prompts the last time you did this," those will be appearing in comments this morning. Yep.

I hope you guys all have an amazing Friday.
leigh57: (Jack/Renee bookcase white arms)
In the (approximate, since I lack her flair -- get it?) style of [livejournal.com profile] lowriseflare, my fandom wishlist for 2012:

1. for Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson to costar in a delightful two hour BBC comedy that has nothing to do with death, pain, alcoholism, or emo of any kind and in which they have metric craptons of well-acted eyesex
2. for Annie Wersching to land a monumentally badass role in a new TV show that is (for once) good, and for her costar to be hot
3. for Justified to keep doing exactly what it's doing, complete with emo!Winona, awesome!Art, lots of complicated bromance between Boyd and Raylan, and meatier storylines for Tim and Rachel
4. for Touch to be as fantabulous as it looks in this trailer. Or in lieu of that, for it to be totally terrible but still stay on TV so I can hear Kiefer talk every week:)
5. for someone to find and put all over youtube A) all the 8x17 nookie footage that hit the cutting room floor B) the gag reels from every single season of 24 or, even better, C) all of the above
6. for me to find the courage to watch the end of BSG
7. for Brandi Carlile to release a new CD already, and then come tour near my home 12 times
8. for Allison Janney to have her own show, in which she plays A) POTUS B) a lifelong New Yorker forced to relocate to Birmingham, AL, C) a bounty hunter, or D) anything

My list is actually pretty short;) What about you guys? Fandom wishes for 2012?
leigh57: (7x01 Renee Walker FBI)
So I rewatched 24 7x01 last night. I had about 436782967893462896457289 feelings, most of which I won't bore anyone with. But it WAS so funny, after a long time of watching only bits and pieces of S8 (if anything), to see Renee all innocent and strutty, back before she knew she'd been repeatedly beat up and almost raped by a Russian freakshow;) It was so much fun that I got motivated to go and hunt up Kay's insanely amazing screencap recap.

And I laughed my ass off again:)

More tonight, hopefully. SHOW, WHY ARE YOU SO DAMN GOOD?

And then I realized that while I've asked you guys who watched 24 about your favorite season, I don't think I've ever asked about your favorite episode. And now I'm curious. If you had to pick one ep, which one would it be? Why?

eta: Also, cool link to article about Touch. I'm pretty excited to have Kiefer back on my TV. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] sparkles_mouse for the link.
leigh57: (HP friends)
I'm going to try to keep this brief (for me anyway), because it's barely more than an idealet in my brain.

I've been thinking about all the writing comms/challenges/whathaveyous I've seen around LJ, and the fact that they're often time limited or pressure-filled or all of the above.

I was also thinking that I often wind up in a place where I feel as if I want to write, but it's just hard to get myself motivated to do it and how much the [livejournal.com profile] het_banghelp comm helped me with that last summer.

SO. I'm thinking about starting a writing comm (any kind of writing at all -- fanfic, original fic, whatever's your thing), the purpose of which would be to create an environment with low levels of pressure and high levels of encouragement. My immediate thoughts run along the lines of having idk, a goal of thousand words a week (or 500! All of this is open to suggestion). Posts could include: progress updates, requests for concrit, writing traumas of the day, challenge suggestions, etc. Members would obviously not have to participate every week.

This is just a post to find out if anybody would be interested in such a thing. If not, completely cool. If so, also cool.

To help, a handy poll!

[Poll #1808640]

Ideas, comments, questions, and anything else are more than welcome in comments.
leigh57: (7x01 Renee Calls Bullshit)
JFC, I just deleted something like 75 icons on the way to a goal of 100. I'm trying to shake it up. I also have the most intense DTs you can even believe. This list from which I'm deleting has been culled SO MANY TIMES, down to the point where each one I erase is all, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO."

But I'm still trying. *sobs*

eta: OMG, how adorkable is Annie? Uh, don't click that if you're squeamish . . .

a/n: This is for [livejournal.com profile] siricerasi. The complete list of prompts is here. All fail, canon or otherwise, is mine and mine alone. Not exactly my area of expertise, yikes! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] adrenalin211 for the super fast read-through.

Title and cut text are from Brandi Carlile's "Again Today/Hiding My Heart."

For dinner tonight, I made these fish tacos, and omigod, I really can't even describe how good they are. If you like fish and/or spicy food at all, I recommend this recipe so highly. I even went wild (I have low wild standards, okay?) and made my own version of chipotle mayo with fat free Greek yogurt, barbecue sauce, and seasonings. It was delicious.

I am also about to bounce the eff out of my seat in excitement, waiting for this album. Seriously, The Punch Brothers, The Decemberists, The Civil Wars, The Secret Sisters, The Low Anthem, ALL WITH THE CHIEFTAINS? *freaks the eff out*

I hope you guys had a wonderful New Year's Eve celebration, and a huge HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone. May it be the best one yet.
